Regular physical activity has multiple positive effects on the health of children. They benefit from increased well-being and motor skills, plus from improved cognitive development, self-esteem, social integration, and academic achievement.
Physical education and supportive school environments play an important role in this. Yet, the quality of PE in pre-schools and primary schools have often been questioned.
Against this background, the European Primary Physical Education Teacher Programme (EPRIME) initiative supports teachers and educators to reimagine their PE lessons and PA offering at pre-school and primary school levels.
This shall support to improve the quality of PE and the promotion of an active and healthy lifestyle from an early age across Europe.

Six partners from five countries with one European network co-created our education program to better impact on the motor skills and psycho-social development of 4-to-7-year-old pupils.

Through an innovative co-creation process, we developed a hybrid learning format, in which online self-learning modules take turns with in-practice learning sessions, where the teachers and educators directly work with the children. With it we support to meet the needs and assets in practice.
Our course takes the form of a continuous professional development program that is provided in English, Dutch, German, and Portuguese. Our modules and learning units were co-created and piloted with more than 100 teachers and educators working in practice.
Our learning journey covers motor skills development with injury prevention aspects, and psycho-social capacity building. With it, we seek to reach out across Europe to contribute to a more active and healthier society.

Our work is funded by the European Union.
